In August, we will have lived in the house 2 years. In those two years we have done the following:
- Tore down all the borders (living room, both bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, toy room, and kitchen)
-
Painted living room, Addyson's bedroom, both bathrooms, and kitchen
-
Put up a chair rail in the twins' room and painted the room, as well
-
Painted, stenciled ABC's, and decorated the toy room
-
Put in a new dishwasher
-
Changed the faucets in the kitchen and master bathroom
-
Put up new towel racks in both bathrooms
-
Painted cabinet in kids' bathroom
-
Put up a ceiling fan in the twins' room
-
Changed the lighting in both bathrooms and the office
Majority of these changes were done by me, as Cody was deployed when I moved here. When he came home during R&R he did a few changes (the kitchen fixtures and the dishwasher). The painting has been primarily done by me.
There has always been one room that wasn't complete and needed something: the living room. We have a khaki colored sectional we bought 3/4 years ago, along with a chocolate brown recliner, and ottoman. The carpets are the standard khaki, as well. We do not love the carpet in the least, but we do not feel like changing it now while the kiddos are still young, so it is here to stay. Here is a picture from the 4th of July last year that shows the boring colored walls and part of the furniture. See, how large I was just a year ago with the twins? It's crazy how much has changed in the past year.
Cody and I have both always wanted to bring in the color teal/aqua to help brighten up the room, and the plans to do so were for this summer.
Well, this post started the movement straight ahead towards change. After showing Cody the same post, he was all for moving straight ahead toward change, again we did not have a set date for this renovation. The following comment by Cody made me decide to leave immediately to pick up paint samples, "This room has always reminded me of the desert." I tore out of the house with only my phone and told him I would be back in minutes with samples. We spent a few minutes narrowing our choices. We had one brown color and two choices for our teal. The colors were not a problem, how to put these colors into the room was a problem. Well, the great Kym lives within walking distance and came over Saturday afternoon to help inspire us.
Be forewarned, we have no problem taking risks with colors in our house as every room is something different, with no real "theme" to our house.
And now, the results...
